Cali: Day 5

Day 5 marked our last full day in sunny California.  Again, the day revolved around what would be fun for the girls, so we found ourselves at the Sonoma Train Town Railroad.  The main attraction at Train Town is its 4 mile, quarter scale railroad, but also features other amusement rides as well. The way the rides worked was a little squirrelly.  Apparently, they have more rides than workers, so a worker would run a ride 2 or 3 times and then shut it down to go run another ride 2 or 3 times before coming back.  Try explaining to a couple of two year olds that if they wanted to ride the carousel that shut down after they had already waited 10 minutes for and were next up in line, they would have to wait another 20 minutes for the man to come back from running a different ride. Yeah, that wasn't pretty.  We ended up trying to outsmart the system by following the workers from ride to ride...sometimes it worked out and sometimes it didn't.

"Let us in, let us in!"

The carousel would have to wait...bring on the ferris wheel!

Layla: "Whoa, look how high up we are!"

Jenna: "Phew, Daddy...it will be good to get my feet on the ground again."

Time out for a little rock climbing.

Awww, nothing like a little sisterly love!

Checking out the real train!

Time for the train ride!!!!  Yes, girls, I promise we will get to ride the carousel.

Jenna: "Take me to the carousel!"

The train ride took us through tunnels, over bridges, and eventually stopped in Lakeview, a miniature village with a....

schoolhouse...

...a church...

...and a petting zoo!

The train ride was a blast, but these girls could not stop thinking about the carousel!

Layla: "Oh my goodness!  I thought this day would never come!"

Jenna: "Finally!!!"

After Train Town, we stopped for lunch at a cute, little pizzeria next door.

Jenna approved.

Really approved.

After a short nap at home, we took the girls to a nearby park just to run off a little steam....

They ran...

...and ran...

...and ran.

Of course, they enjoyed the playground too!

But, I must say, whoever decided to cover this playground with sand clearly does not have children.  What a mess!

Despite the sandy nightmare, the girls had a fabulous last day of fun and we ALL thoroughly enjoyed our time in Santa Rosa.  We were so excited to be able to attend Lauren and Chris' wedding and will always remember this trip as our 'First Family Vacation'!  To this day, when the girls are playing at home, they pretend they are going to California!  I think it's safe to say this trip made a lasting impression in their minds.

Day 6 was a travel day for us, so I will spare you those details!!!  If you want to be reminded of what it's like to travel with two 2 year olds, take a look at Cali: Day 1.

On a happier note...while in California, we learned that the next family wedding is coming up in May 2013 and will take place in........................................drum roll please...................................................

HAWAII!!!!!

Better pack your bag, girls......and the Benadryl.  Better yet, can you FedEx your children overseas?
